becomes ill or sustains an injury more serious than a minor cut or scratch. 2903 The preschool must document less serious injuries, such as minor cuts or bites, which require administration of first aid by staff. 2904 Preschools should keep the injury documentation in the child’s record and the child’s parents must be notified of the nature of the injury when the child is picked up from preschool. 2905 Preschools must report the following events that occurred during operation of the preschool to DSS and to the parents of the affected children:  Death of any child from any cause;  Any injury to any child that requires medical treatment;  Any unusual incident or child absence that threatens a child’s safety;  Any suspected physical or psychological abuse of any child  Epidemic outbreaks;  Poisonings;  Catastrophes; and  Fires or explosions that occur on the premises. 2906 Preschools must also report any outbreaks, poisonings, and catastrophes involving two or more children to the local health officer when appropriate. 2907 All fires or explosions must be reported to the local fire authority. 2908 Additionally, within seven days of the occurrence of one of the above listed events, the preschool must send DSS a written report containing:  Child’s name, age, sex, and date of admission;  Date and nature of the event;  Attending physician’s name, findings, and treatment, if any; and  Disposition of the matter. 2909 Preschools must maintain necessary first-aid supplies and keep them in a location accessible to staff but inaccessible to children. 2910 First-aid supplies must include a current first-aid manual, sterile dressings, bandages, adhesive tape, scissors, tweezers, thermometer, and antiseptic solution. 2911 Preschools handling medications must develop and implement a written plan to record the administration of prescription and nonprescription medications to children and to inform the children’s parents when such medications have been given. 2912 This medication policy must be included in the Parent Handbook. 2913 Initially, the child’s parents must provide the preschool with written approval and instructions permitting the preschool to administer any prescription or nonprescription medications, including inhaled medications. 2914 All medications must be labeled and stored in a safe place inaccessible to children. 2915
