D IRECTOR Q UALIFICATIONS

A qualified preschool director must have completed at a minimum one of the following educational and experience options prior to employment: Option 1: High school graduation or GED; 15 semester units at an accredited college in specified early childhood education classes. Three of those 15 units must be in administration or staff relations; the other 12 must include courses that cover the areas of child growth and development, child, family and community, and preschool program or curriculum; and At least four years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program, 10 or Option 2: An associate of arts degree from an accredited college with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development with at least three semesters or equivalent quarter units of administration or staff relations; and At least two years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program, 11 or Option 3: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with a major or emphasis in early childhood education or child development with at least three semesters or equivalent quarter units of administration or staff relations; and At least one year of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program, 12 or Option 4: A Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or a Child Development Program Director Permit issued by the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing. 13
