C HECKLIST F OR D ETERMINING “G OOD C AUSE .” The following is a checklist of items to consider in determining whether discipline or termination is appropriate: Did you provide the employee with advance notice of the possible or probable disciplinary consequence of his or her conduct? Was your rule or order reasonably related to the orderly, efficient and safe operation of the school? Have you, before administering discipline, made an effort to discover whether the employee did in fact violate or disobey your rule, standard, or order? Did you conduct a fair and objective investigation of the situation? Have you applied the rule, order and penalty evenhandedly and without discrimination to all employees in comparable situations? Is the degree of proposed discipline reasonably related to: The seriousness of the employee’s proven offense? The employee’s service record with the school? The penalties previously imposed in the school in comparable circumstances?
